Fumoffu - ふもっふ

Quick Summary:

Alice is betrayed by her subsidiary, Wei Zhi Jun (AKA VI952), who reveals his plot to take over the Chen Long Tang organization himself. With all of the corporate executives eliminated, VI952 then proceeds to get rid of the witnesses, Inspector Kirihara and Saitou. When all seems bleak for the two, Hei comes flying through the window as BK-201, and defeats Wei Zhi Jun in nifty fashion. He then takes the plant crystal that was in Wei’s possession before escaping through the window. As Hei completes his mission by returning the crystal to Huang, he learns that Wei’s corpse disappeared from the morgue, and that his star has not fallen since the fight, suggesting he is still alive.

At the end of the episode, Misaki Kirihara graciously declines the promotion offer, citing that she realized her abilities are still not qualified for the position.

Ah, another bi-episodic arc come and gone. This one basically focused on fleshing out Kirihara Misaki’s character, providing us with a look at what drives her to do what she does. Apparently, she seems to be the series’ true goody-goody, despite coming off as a serious bitch early on.

If nothing else, these last couple episodes proved that Misaki can look damn good in a qipao. There should be a petition for her to wear that throughout the rest of the series. Yeah, yeah…it wouldn’t make much sense for her to be chasing down contractors and the like, while wearing that…but at least it’d look cool. If Yohko can dismember demons and monsters while wearing one of those, Misaki can sure as hell cap a contractor or two in one as well.

The greenhouse fight between Hei and VI952 was frickin’ awesome. I haven’t a clue who was the key animator responsible for that, but it was beautifully done…particularly that scene where Hei and VI952 sling past (and just barely graze) each other on the rooftop edge. Badass.

The final confrontation ended up being rather anti-climatic though…especially considering how impressive their lead-up battle was. Having said that, Hei showed off just how slick he can be with his quick strike attack after cleverly feigning his own death.

The closing scenes suggest that this isn’t the end of Wei Zhi Jun just yet, which couldn’t make me happier. He’s by far the coolest enemy contractor we’ve seen up to this point. Body-shifting ain’t got nothing on splattering your own blood all over the place to kill your victims. Sorry, but that’s just too cool.

This is easily one of the better episodes so far. It had a great fight scene, some sweet animation, and more scenes with Misaki in a qipao. These past few episodes would definitely get anyone hooked onto the series if they haven’t already. The story-lines were well done and matched with good animation.

The demonstration of fighting, speed, and cunning between Hei and Wei makes me quite anxious for their future bouts — more blood flying about and electric-charged blades! I have to agree that the ending fight was a bit anti-climatic, but with the slight promise that Wei will show up again, it redeems itself.

Now, I eagerly await for more DtB, specifically sweet fight scenes and yummy qipao shots.
